KUWAIT CITY, July 28: The Cabinet submitted its resignation to HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Sunday, following the 2013 National Assembly election, and set the Parliament’s opening session for Aug 6. Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir issued an Amiri Order accepting the resignation of Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah’s Cabinet. The Amiri Order stipulated acceptance of resignation of Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak’s government, but asked the Premier and the ministers to stay on as a caretaker cabinet, pending formation of a new government. The Amiri Order is effective as of the date of its issuance, and the National Assembly will be notified regarding the issuance which will be published in the official Gazette.
The Cabinet held an extraordinary meeting on Sunday to review the election events of Saturday. Following the meeting, State Minister for Cabinet Affairs and Municipality Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah announced that the Cabinet approved a draft decree to invite the first round of the new 14th legislative term on August 6 and has finalized its resignation. HH the Amir approved the decree setting the date of the new Assembly’s opening session. Secretary-General of the National Assembly Allam Al-Kandari also announced that the opening ceremony of the first ordinary session of the 14th legislative term will be held on Tuesday, August 6. He said that the opening session will be headed by the elder of the MPs, who is MP Hamad Saif Al-Harshani, as per Parliament protocol until a Parliament Speaker is elected.
