Pakistan Independence Day Celebrations at Pakistan Embassy in Kuwait

Kuwait, 14 August 2016: An impressive function was held this morning at the Embassy Chancery to celebrate the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan.

The ceremony began with a flag hoisting ceremony. This was followed by a well attended function in the Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium.

Ambassador Ghulam Dastgir read out the messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

In his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted that Pakistan’s Independence marked the successful culmination of a heroic struggle of the Muslims of the sub-continent for their right to have a separate homeland of their own. He also underlined the major initiatives of the government to achieve rapid socio-economic development and tackle the menace of terrorism.

On the government’s achievements in the realm of foreign policy, the Ambassador noted that Pakistan’s influence was growing among the comity of nations as a result of the Prime Minister’s vision of “peaceful neighbourhood”.

The Ambassador also highlighted the plight of the Kashmiri people and explained Pakistan’s principled position on Kashmir based on UN resolutions. He reiterated the Prime Minister’s stance that it is our historic commitment and duty, as a party to the Kashmir dispute, to continue to extend support and advocate the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

On bilateral relations, he informed that the leadership of the two brotherly countries of Pakistan and Kuwait are determined to convert the huge reservoir of mutual good will into a strong partnership through expanding cooperation in diverse fields, notably trade, energy and investment. He also lauded the positive role of the Pakistani community in Kuwait.

This was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony.

The Pakistani community in Kuwait in collaboration with the Embassy, also arranged a number of cultural events to mark the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan.
