KUWAIT CITY, May 31: A group called ‘Tamahi’ planned to stage a protest opposite the Syrian Embassy in Kuwait Tuesday afternoon to show solidarity with Syrian masses “who are facing the brutality of the Baathi regime but the presence of heavy security foiled their attempt,” said sources.
Security patrol teams and Special Forces were in firm control of entries and exits of the embassy despite the hot weather which rose to nearly 50 degrees Celsius. The officers cordoned off the area to prevent motorists from driving close to the embassy, but it did not disrupt traffic movement. Police reportedly checked the identities of those wanting to go near the embassy to know their mission.
Tamahi group issued a statement to clarify its intention. It claimed that the planned demonstration was to inform the whole world that Kuwaitis are solidly behind Syrian masses, “because people of different societies who are joined by the value of freedom cannot be separated by borders.”
