KUWAIT CITY, Dec 4, (KUNA): Ministry of Public Works announced on Sunday that the new passenger terminal at Kuwait Internatio-nal Airport will be completed by September 2016, indicating that the estimated cost is about KD 900 million.
Acting Director of Advisers to the Ministry Eng Faisal Majeed Al-Ostath told Kuwait News Agency that the design phase and document preparations will be ready by March 2012.
According to a Cabinet declaration issued in 2008, the Ministry is mandated to implement this project in coordination with the Department of Civil Aviation as the beneficiary of the project, he added.
Al-Ostath said that after the establishment and launch of this vital facility, it will be Kuwait’s civilized gateway to the outside world.
He said that the size of the terminal will display the new vision of the future of Kuwait with strategic investments in infrastructure and construction, adding that what raises the admiration is the tendency of environmental ambition of the project.
A well-respected package of design team including Lord Norman Foster’s team will be incharge of the new airport.
The new terminal will be converted into a regional station in the Gulf region as well as the increase of its capacity significantly, indicating that to achieve this strategic objective, it became necessary to establish a new building with the latest standards and global systems to provide the highest degree of comfort for travelers,he confirmed.
He also said that the new building will consist of a horizontal triangular shape. It will be allocated at 6.8 million square meters and will form a symbolic triangular mark as a symbol of modern Kuwait and the echo of the rich culture and civilization.
