Judges blame PCB inaction for Pakistan fixing

KARACHI: Pakistan’s senior judges, who conducted match-fixing inquiries in the past, Sunday said their recommendations to check corruption in cricket were ignored and that led to the latest betting scandal.
A British judge Thursday sentenced former captain Salman Butt to 30 months, fast bowler Mohammad Asif one year and Mohammad Amir to six months for their roles in fixing last year’s Test against England.

KARACHI: While Shahid Afridi and his lawyers ponder over their next move – whether to attend the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) disciplinary committee hearing or not – the emphasis remains on the sought-after NOC that will allow the retired all-rounder to resume his domestic career.
The PCB suspended Afridi’s central contract and revoked all NOCs handed out to him in the immediate aftermath of his retirement – which includes comments made on-air without mincing his wordsagainst the board, the coach or the ‘Punjab-Lahore lobby’. It also asked the former captain to appear before its disciplinary committee tomorrow despite Afridi and his lawyers questioning its transparency.
