Q: Visa transfer I have been working in a private firm for 5 years and only last year I got my residence transferred from my husband’s sponsorship to another company. I still have 2 months more to complete a year on the company’s residence, I have got a much better offer in another company but my current sponsor has threatened me that if I resign he will not sign the release papers and send me back to my home country. My question is that: can he do this to me? Can I get a release if I complete one year with the current sponsor? Can I seek intervention or help from the shoun? What are my rights? Answer: No he can’t do anything. You did a local transfer when you joined the current company. If you resign after completing one year with the company, the employer is bound to accept your resignation. Even if he doesn’t give you a release, you can still get a transfer if you go to the Labour Office in your area. That’s the rule for local transfers ----------- Arab Times
