KUWAIT CITY, Nov 22: The General Immigration Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued a decision not to extend visit visas effective January 2009, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting reliable sources from the department. After conducting a comprehensive study on the issue, the department decided not to extend visit visas to reduce the crowd and confusion in the concerned departments. According to the decision, family visit visas are valid for three months while the tourist visas for commercial, diplomatic or personal visits are valid for one month. Visit visas will be extended only if they are converted to work visas in the private sector for holders of academic certificates in accordance with the work permit procedures at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor. This extension is aimed at giving applicants enough time to complete the necessary procedures like medical tests and fingerprinting. Patients in a critical condition are also allowed to extend their visit visas provided a valid medical certificate from the Ministry of Health (MoH) is attached to the application, sources explained. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has advised all sponsors and residents to strictly comply with the specified period for visit visas, indicating foreigners on visit to Kuwait should leave the country before the visa expires to avoid facing legal problems.
