Everyone has spilt a beverage, cup of tea or some other liquid and with more and more people working with their laptops in coffee shops or in their kitchens, the potential for a ruined keyboard and mouse is very high. While washable keyboards have long been a part of the computer landscape, there have been very few mice that can withstand spills. Eager to fill this gap, Belkin has launched its new notebook-aimed mouse known simply as the Washable Mouse. Belkin’s says its latest creation can withstand the initial spill and, since no one wants to work with a mouse that’s sticky or is covered in stains, a wash after the incident. To put this to the test we spilled a cup of steaming hot coffee on the mouse on purpose and let it sit for a while. |

We'll show you how to select an easy-to-use, compact digital camera, and point you to some of our favorites.
Compact, pocket models occupy the largest section of the digital camera market, and vary wildly in terms of features and price. Still, a compact camera is often the best choice for a newbie, who needs more guidance and automatic modes than a more-experienced photographer would.
Though you hear a lot about it, the least of your worries when choosing the right camera is its resolution. These days, you'd be hard pressed to find a newer model that offers less than 7 megapixels. The cameras we've highlighted here all feature at least 8MP, which is more than enough for producing high-quality online images and decent-size prints. But if you insist on packing in the pixels, check out the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W300, with a whopping 13.6MP—the highest resolution we've seen in a compact camera.
If you want to capture candid shots and take vacation photos, you'll do best with an easy-to-tote point-and-shooter. While most compacts focus on automatic features, some models offers a few manual settings, too. The lower end of the price range includes the Canon PowerShot A590 IS and the Fuji FinePix J10 (both well below $200). Toward the top of the price range are the Canon PowerShot SD790 IS, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20, and the DMC-FX55, with prices ranging from $300 to $350. Compact cameras typically sport 3X or 4X optical zoom lenses, although the Pentax Optio M50 and the high-end touch-screen Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300 hit the 5X mark, which is long enough to get you reasonably close to the action. (If you need to get even closer, check out our roundup of superzoom cameras.)

The Signature Mini Black Cherry 320GB ($179.99 list) from SimpleTech is a meticulously crafted portable hard drive that gives products like the Western Digital My Passport Elite (WDML3200) a run for their money. Its price per gigabyte (around 56 cents) is impressive—even less than the WD Elite's ratio (59 cents) at its now-discounted direct price. Moreover, its backup software is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS, it's drop-dead gorgeous, and it offers impressive performance. It's available in sizes ranging from 120GB ($89.99) to 500GB ($229.99), and it's a great way to back up and store all of your video, music, photos, and personal data.
